Former Nebraska Basketball Star Terran Petteway Finishes Strong In Summer Showing
Former Nebraska basketball star Terran Petteway had a bit of an up and down NBA Summer League season in Las Vegas but he finished strong enough to raise some eyebrows.
Petteway joined the Milwaukee Bucks team in Las Vegas and played in all five games of the team’s shortened summer league season. The squad’s run ended earlier than others because they didn’t make the playoffs.
It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Petteway struggled at times and looked like the best player on the court other times. He started out like gangbusters, scoring 16 points in his first game with the Bucks, and shot 6 for 10 from the field, including 3 for 6 from beyond the three-point arc.
That debut was followed up by a game Nebraska basketball fans certainly became familiar with over the years. In that game, he scored just five points, thanks to 2 for 10 shooting that included 1 for 5 from three-point land.
Having apparently understood the performance was a big strike against him, his third game saw his best performance of the five-game season. Against Memphis, Petteway scored 21 points and hauled down six rebounds, dished out two assists and pulled off two steals.
In the second to last game of the year, Petteway went back to not being able to hit the broad side of a barn, as he made just two of 10 shots and scored just four points. In the season finale, despite Milwaukee losing their fourth contest in five games, Petteway looked sharp again.
The former Nebraska basketball star scored 12 points and brought down two rebounds and nabbed two steals. Over the course of the short season, Petteway averaged 11.6 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game. While that’s not likely going to get him a roster spot on an NBA team this fall, it will likely cement him a spot on a developmental league team again.
