Nebraska Cornhuskers Make Top 4 For Louisiana’s Top Prospect
The Nebraska Cornhuskers have made the cut of wide receiver Devonta Smith’s final four schools.
The Lousiana native, who has been billed by some as the best player in the state told the Times-Picayune he also knows when he’s going to announce where he’s committing. Now Nebraska just has to try and convince him to pick them over a perennial national title contender.
If Smith does indeed decide to pick the Huskers, it would seem to show that not only are Mike Riley and company doing a fantastic job recruiting, but that they are managing to change the perception of Nebraska with many top recruits. Smith laid out the four schools still vying for his commitment and said he didn’t have an official order yet.
Along with Nebraska, the wide receiver is looking at Alabama, Mississippi State, and Miami. It should be pointed out that a number of recruiting services didn’t give the Nebraska Cornhuskers much of a shot of getting this far with Smith. 247 Sports’ Crystal Ball had LSU and Florida State making the cut alongside Miami and Alabama.
It’s certainly interesting to see his home state school not making the cut while two other SEC teams did. He told the newspaper he just didn’t feel as though the Tigers’ offense was a good fit for him, despite growing up an LSU fan.
When talking about why the Nebraska Cornhuskers made his final four, one man who has been getting quite a few mentions among the nation’s top wide receivers came up. “Coach (Keith) Williams is one of the best there is in the business. He’s a great position coach and I feel like I could be that missing piece to help them get on top again.”
Mike Riley and Keith Williams still very much have their work cut out for them with Devonta Smith. When talking about why Alabama made the cut he said “They are always playing for National Championships. The coaching staff is great, not too far from home and they were on me early and never let up.”

It could be a tall order to lure him to the Nebraska Cornhuskers but at least the team is in the conversation. Devonta Smith will announce his final decision on August 15.
