The Nebraska football team might be hauling in a pretty good 2017 recruiting class but Mike Riley and company are hard at work shoring up their 2019 class with the recent visit of a talented defensive back.

This June has been a busy time for the Husker coaching staff recruiting wise including hosting Kenyatta Watson II who is garnering a ton of attention from Power 5 conference schools this month.

When June opened, the cornerback from Loganville had offers from Boston College and UMass but according to Huskersonline, the class of 2019 recruit has impressed onlookers at a number of camps and Nebraska is just of a handful of schools interested in his services.

Vanderbilt, Nebraska, Central Michigan, Tulane and Tennessee have all offered Watson, despite the fact that it’s going to be several years before he can set foot on any college campus. In order to prove Riley is willing to put the pedal to the metal in recruiting no matter how long it’s going to be until he sees a payoff, Watson visited last week for an unofficial.

The Huskers might have a bit of an in with both Watson and his father who know linebacker Mohamed Barry. He went to the same high school as Watson. While he was able to offer some help, the Watson family says he really undersold the school mostly telling them they would “see for themselves.”

Watson senior was sold on how good Nebraska was during their visit, telling Huskersonline, “I mean, we’ve been to 28 schools, Nebraska was No. 28, and we were sold that Tennessee was the best that we had been to, but everything about Nebraska was unbelievable. The coaches, the people, when you think of Nebraska you don’t think about the Haymarket area downtown to have like a real city type of feel to it. Just everything was just totally impressive and we’re still blown away.”

While Nebraska football does have a good shot with Kenyatta Watson II, his dad’s comments do seem to indicate that Tennesee still has the inside track. On the other hand, Riley and company have a couple of years to come around.
