4. Erick Strickland

A Nebraska boy born and raised, Erick Strickland is one of the players largely credited with taking Danny Nee’s Nebraska basketball program to the NCAA tournament on a regular basis. Strickland was never one of those players that put up goudy numbers but he was always a well rounded player.

After averaging 12.5 points per game over a four-year career with the Huskers, he was signed by the Dallas Mavericks and played four years for Mark Cuban’s team. While he was a bench player for most of his time in Dallas, he was a starter in his final season there, averaging 12.8 points per game in the 1999-2000 season.

He started in 67 games that season, but never saw action anywhere close to those numbers as Strickland became a bit of a journeyman, playing for five teams in his final five seasons in the NBA.

The former Nebraska basketball star never put up the kind of numbers he did in his fourth season in the league, but he did manage to make himself a valuable sixth man who finished his career with two season in Milwaukee.

These days Erick Strickland is an assistant coach who reportedly came very close to being hired on to join Tim Miles’ staff a few years back.
