College Football Playoff Rankings: Huskers can knock out Hawkeyes

The Nebraska Cornhuskers aren’t quite done factoring into the College Football Playoff rankings. Sitting at (4-6) the Huskers need two more wins to earn a Bowl bid. Although, the Huskers have no shot to make the College Football Playoff, they’ll have a real shot to alter the entire landscape of college football.

The second installment of the College Football Playoff rankings features two Big Ten teams in the Top 5. The No.3 Ohio State Buckeyes have the longest winning streak in the country, but they were surpassed by the No.2 Alabama Crimson Tide. Meanwhile, the No.5 Iowa Hawkeyes jumped ahead of No.6 Baylor Bears on Tuesday. In fact, the Hawkeyes moved up four spots after the Week 1 College Football Playoff rankings. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish moved into the final College Football Playoff spot.

The Hawkeyes are (9-0) with three games remaining on the schedule. However, all three opponents are on the bottom of the Big Ten West. This week the Hawkeyes welcome the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Then they face the Purdue Boilermakers at home. If the Hawkeyes win both of those games, they’ll already have clinched the Big Ten West division. However, there will be one more game left in the regular season.

The Huskers will host the Hawkeyes in their annual rivalry game. With Nebraska already knocking off No.13 Michigan State Spartans last week, the Huskers have a chance for their second Top 10 win in the month of November. However, it will only happen if Iowa is still undefeated when they meet.

Overall, the Big Ten has six teams in the College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings. The No.14 Michigan Wolverines are one spot behind the Spartans. It’s fitting, since they lost their battle with the Spartans on the last play. The Wolverines still have a date with the Buckeyes, so their chances to win the Big Ten East is still wide open.
