Maliek Collins
2. Maliek Collins – DT: Maliek Collins is tied for fourth on the Nebraska Cornhuskers with 1.5 sacks. He’s third on the team with five tackles for a loss. Despite playing at a high level, Collins needs to take his game to the next step vs the Spartans Saturday night.
The Spartans run the ball 40 times per game, and they like to use a power rushing attack. Therefore, Collins and the rest of the defensive line will get their opportunity to shutdown L.J. Scott and Gerald Holmes. Coming into the game, the Spartans average 156 rushing yards per game. It’s not the most explosive attack, but it’s consistent.
The Huskers have to move the line of scrimmage, and create negative plays. Collins has the ability to wreak havoc on opposing offensive lines. If he’s successful, the rest of the defense can make plays.
With the defensive line getting stronger, the Huskers should be able to get more pressure on Connor Cook. Opponents have been able to unleash their passing game each week. Therefore, it’s important for the defensive line to get some meaningful sacks.
