3. Nate Gerry – Safety: It’s no secret the Nebraska Cornhuskers have had trouble in the secondary. Whether it’s the corners getting beat deep, or the safeties not making the proper plays, the Huskers have struggled as a whole.

Nate Gerry has had his moments for the Huskers. However, he’s been beaten quite a few times in the passing game as well. In addition, there are instances where Gerry has been unable to make open field tackles. The Huskers defense can’t afford to give up big plays. Last week, Purdue scored 55 points, so the defense is in need of a bounce back game.

Coming into the game, Gerry is second on the team with 50 tackles. He’s second on the team behind fellow safety Byerson Cockrell’s 51 tackles. Last week, Cockrell missed the game due to a family emergency. Now that he’s back, the Huskers should play an overall better game defensively.

However, the Huskers must force turnovers Saturday night. The Huskers only have five interceptions on the season, and Gerry has three of them. If he can add an interception or two, the entire game can change in Nebraska’s favor.

Due to Michigan State’s tendency to run the ball. Gerry will also be able to make plays at the line of scrimmage. Let’s see if he comes with a tenacious attitude in this ball game.
