Nebraska Cornhuskers: Five players to watch vs Michigan State
Devine Ozigbo
4. Devine Ozigbo – I-Back: I-back Terrell Newby is questionable for the game, and it could change a lot of things for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Offensively, the Huskers have relied on Newby to carry the light load, but they’ll be looking for a boost if he can’t play.
Of course Imani Cross will have an increased workload, but the most interesting prospect will be Devine Ozigbo. So far, Ozigbo averages six yards per carry, but only has 16 rushing attempts this season.
He should bring a different type of physicality to the position, The Spartans only give up 115 rushing yards per game, so it would be too much to expect a special day. However, if the running game was able to break through for some big plays, it could give the Huskers real confidence against a Top 10 opponent.
Surprisingly, Mikale Wilbon took some snaps in practice, but what are the chances of seeing him take meaningful snaps? He maybe used in the screen game due to Newby’s absence. As the third I-back, anything can happen, so hopefully he’s ready to make a contribution.
Andy Janovich might become the most critical player to the running game. Janovich has a knack for making big plays, and he has breakaway ability from the fullback position. Averaging 6.8 yards per carry, Janovich is third on the team with 203 rushing yards.
In the end, this could be a breakout day for Ozigbo. We’ve seen glimpses of the future, but the real future could start today vs the Michigan State Spartans.
