Big Ten Rankings: Nebraska Cornhuskers are dead last

The Nebraska Cornhuskers (3-6, 1-4) suffered a third straight conference loss to drop in the Big Ten Rankings. It’s safe to say, their loss to Purdue has officially made this season a waste. In fact, the only way the Huskers can salvage the season is by winning the final three games of the regular season. If the Huskers were playing great football, it wouldn’t be easy. As we have seen, the Huskers aren’t playing great football.

After losing to one of the worst teams in the Big Ten, the Huskers will have to beat two of the three undefeated in the Big Ten to even have a chance of finishing at .500. By the time the College Football Playoff rankings are released Tuesday night, the Huskers could have a pair of Top 10 opponents on their remaining schedule.

The three undefeated Big Ten teams are slotted in the Top 10 of the College Football Playoff rankings. The Ohio State Buckeyes, Michigan State Spartans, and Iowa Hawkeyes are contenders for a College Football Playoff spot. However, if all three of these teams lose a game, there could be a fallout of epic proportions.

Although the Huskers have six losses, and are in last place of the Big Ten West, five of the defeats came by five points or less. Therefore, when the Huskers face No.7 Michigan State and No.9 Iowa, they won’t be taken lightly.

Tommy Armstrong should be back in the lineup for the Huskers. However, they lost De’Mornay Pierson-El for the season due to a fractured leg. Overall, it’s been a rough year for the entire program, but it should have never gotten this bad. Whether you believe it or not, the season is lost. If the Huskers happened to pull off a couple of upsets in the final month, it would be the most Nebraska thing to do this weekend.

Overall, half of the teams in the Big Ten have winning records. Four teams in the Big Ten East have clinched a Bowl berth. Three teams in the Big Ten West have winning records. There are also three teams with .500 records.
