5. Terrell Newby – I-Back: Will the Nebraska Cornhuskers give Terrell Newby and the I-backs a chance to win the game? Currently, Newby leads the team with 119 carries for 641 yards, and six total touchdowns. If you’re doing the math, Newby earns less than 15 carries per game. Remember, after the first loss to BYU, the coaching staff wanted to set a tone with the running game. Well, things haven’t gone as planned this season, but there’s still time to make it right.

Coming into the Purdue game Newby averages a healthy 5.4 yards per carry, and it should be enough to become a focal point of the offense with Ryker Fyfe making his first start. However, there’s a chance the ball will be Fyfe’s hands in critical moments.

Even if Newby isn’t getting the job done, the Huskers have plenty of ball carriers to make a difference. Devine Ozigbo averages six yards per carry this season. However, he only has 16 rushing attempts on the season.

The Huskers should also get Andy Janovich involved in the game. He can be a scary weapon for Purdue’s defense to defend. Janovich leads the team with 7.2 yards per rush. He has big play ability from the fullback position, and can change the game on a single play.

In the end, Newby must make a difference from the beginning. The offensive line must create running lanes so Newby can use his speed. The Boilermakers give up 199 rushing yards per game this season.
