Tommy Armstrong

2. Tommy Armstrong– QB: Tommy Armstrong enters week 8 with 15 touchdowns and six interceptions for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He hasn’t thrown any picks in the last two games. He can’t afford to make any mistakes on Saturday. Northwestern has six interceptions on the season but three of those were by Matthew Harris. Unfortunately for Northwestern, Harris is out of the game with a head injury.

Over the last two games, Northwestern has averaged five points. Therefore, they’ll be looking for the defense to make some plays in the game. Sloppy quarterback play could come back to haunt the Huskers. However, if the Armstrong leads and explosive offense, they may prove to be too much for the Wildcats.

So far, Northwestern has limited opponents to 146 yards passing per game. It’s no laughing matter when you think of Armstrong’s struggles in the first two Big Ten contests. He couldn’t reach 130 passing yards in losses to Illinois and Wisconsin. Hopefully, Armstrong is over those bad games, and the offense hits on all cylinders again.

Armstrong may also be Nebraska’s best running option on Saturday. Once again, his ability to challenge the defense with his legs has to used. Otherwise, Northwestern will have a better sense of what the Huskers are trying to do.
