Nate Gerry

4. Nate Gerry – Safety: Inevitably, Mitch Leidner will throw the ball to Nate Gerry this weekend. However, for the Huskers to capitalize, Gerry is going to have to catch the ball. After he makes the interception, he needs to take it back for a touchdown.

In a perfect world, this play would have happened in the Wisconsin game. Instead of knocking the Badgers down with an early blow, Gerry dropped the pass. Soon after, numerous Husker defensive players dropped interceptions. That’s how the Badgers ended up with a turnover free game.

The blame is not on Gerry, but as a leader of the struggling defense, he has to make the extraordinary play to keep the Huskers afloat. Not to mention, a few easy touchdowns would help Nebraska’s cause immensely.

Gerry has two of the Nebraska’s three interceptions this season. It shows  how inept the Huskers have been at playing the ball in the air. However, the defensive backs seem to be primed for a breakout game.

Gerry has also been an instrumental key to stopping the run game. Currently, he’s fourth on the team with 34 tackles. Fellow defensive backs Josh Kalu, and Byerson Cockrell each have 35 tackles.
