Big Ten Rankings: Nebraska is plagued by fourth quarters

Once again, the Nebraska Cornhuskers failed to get Mike Riley his first conference win. It wasn’t supposed to be this difficult when Riley accepted the job, but the Big Ten rankings are a reflection of where the Huskers are right now.

For some reason, lack of  talent seems to be blamed when it comes to Nebraska’s four losses. However, the Huskers have been talented enough to be ahead or tied in the final minute of every game this season. They’ve also found different ways to lose.

More from Husker Corner

Offensively, the Huskers have not been the same since conference play started. Tommy Armstrong hasn’t had a good start to the Big Ten season, and he’s gone from playing his best football of his career to the worst in two games. If fortunes don’t change soon, the Huskers will have a hard time winning another game this season.

Nebraska doesn’t have the ability to blow teams out, and they don’t have the ability to hold a lead, so they will continue to find the team in the same predicament.

The Huskers face Minnesota for their third road game of the season. They’ve gone (0-2) away from home, but crowd participation hasn’t impacted their performance.

Nebraska Cornhuskers

With the Huskers, it’s all about the fourth quarter. In the last three games, they’ve been outscored 48-14 during the fourth quarter. As long as the Huskers rectify those problems, they might find themselves in the win column.

While Nebraska hasn’t won many games with their new coach, the Michigan Wolverines have excelled under first year head coach Jim Harbaugh. After producing three straight shutouts, the Wolverines have a chance to really impress the entire world of college football. They have risen fast in the Big Ten rankings, and certainly look like Big Ten title contenders.
