Touchdown Tommy Armstrong

1. Tommy Armstrong – QB: The Nebraska Cornhuskers will only go as far as Tommy Armstrong can take them. For one, it’s a lot of pressure placed on the junior quarterback, but he has to live up to his ability every game in conference play. Basically, Armstrong can’t afford any letdown during games.

Last week, Nebraska took a 22-0 halftime lead over Southern Miss. The lead could have been bigger, and Nebraska completely dominated the first half, so Nebraska was on their way to an easy victory, right? Not exactly. Armstrong threw an interception on the opening possession of the second half, and the momentum switched for the rest of the game.

Knowing that the Huskers’ defense has been struggling, Armstrong must be on top of his game this week. The Illinois offense can score points in a hurry, so Nebraska’s offense must be on point.

Armstrong leads the Big Ten in touchdown passes, and total yards. His 1266 passing yards has been great for the Huskers. After four games, Armstrong is almost halfway to his 2014 season total. In addition to his passing numbers, Armstrong has started to get his ground game into gear. There’s no doubt, he’ll look to punish Illinois’ defense with his feet as well as his head.

When it comes down to it, Armstrong may have to use his legs more in the red zone. If the Huskers are struggling to score touchdowns, he has to be aggressive early in the game. No matter what, all eyes will be on Armstrong’s performance this week.
