2. Terrell Newby – I-back: Terrell Newby has established himself as the top I-back for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Averaging 5.7 yards per carry, Newby has been a steady back for the Huskers’ offense. However, he’s only had one spectacular performance in his first four starts.

So far, Newby has 77 touches on the season, with four touchdowns. He’s tied for first on the team with Jordan Westerkamp. Overall, he’s had quite a few nice runs, but the offense needs him to have a huge impact on the team. One of the reasons why Nebraska was held to five first half field goals was due to their inability to run the ball in the red zone. This is exactly where Newby and the offensive line can distinguish themselves on Saturday.

If the Huskers want to finish touchdown drives, they must establish the running game. In addition, their rushing attack with Newby might help the defense in the long run.

Every time Newby makes a start, it’s a new first. Now he finally gets a chance to face his first Big Ten defense as the starting Husker I-back. Despite the inexperience, Newby should be up to the task for this game. One way Newby can be more of a factor, is getting to the hole quicker. This doesn’t mean be impatient. However, once the blocks develop, Newby has to make those quick decisions.
