Big Ten Football: Five teams in Top 25 AP Poll

As the college football season progressed through the month of September, the Big Ten started receiving more recognition for their conference teams. Currently, the Big Ten has five teams in the Top 25 AP Poll. With No.1 Ohio State Buckeyes, and No.2 Michigan State Spartans up top, Big Ten Football has a lot to be proud of right now. Entering October, the SEC only has two more ranked teams than the Big Ten.

More from Husker Corner

Unfortunately, not every team in the conference is where they should be. The Nebraska Cornhuskers did not receive a vote in the AP Poll. Sitting at (2-2), the Huskers haven’t given the voters any reason to bless Nebraska with a number next to their name. However, a Top 25 ranking should be the least of Nebraska’s concern right now.

The Huskers have yet to put a full game together in 2015. Until they do, Nebraska’s inconsistencies will keep them from earning a ranking. We all know Nebraska lost their two contests on the last play of the game. However, the way they lost wasn’t necessarily a fluke. Mistakes continue to plague the Huskers, and it’s mistakes that led to the heartbreaking defeats.

Currently, the Huskers face 3 of 5 ranked Big Ten teams in the Top 25 AP Poll. Right now, they have dates with No.19 Wisconsin Badgers, No.16 Northwestern Wildcats, and the No.2 Michigan State Spartans. The Huskers also face an undefeated Iowa Hawkeyes team this season. Despite going undefeated in September, the Hawkeyes haven’t garnered enough votes (37) from the writers.

Michigan rising

The Huskers also take on the (3-1) Minnesota Golden Gophers. The Gophers only loss came to the No.4 TCU Horned Frogs to open the season. Since then, Minnesota has won every game by three points.

The Michigan Wolverines are the final Big Ten Football team to make it into the Top 25 AP Poll. Jim Harbaugh has his team all the way up to No.22 in the rankings, and they have become an intriguing team in the Big Ten East. After dominating the BYU Cougars 31-0, the Wolverines are turning heads around college football.

Quiet as kept, the Indiana Hoosiers also ended the non conference portion of the season undefeated. Although they are standing strong with a (4-0) record, the Hoosiers haven’t earned a single vote in the rankings. Well, they’ll get their chance to turn the entire college football landscape around on Saturday. The Hoosiers host No.1 Ohio State in a Big Ten showdown this Saturday.
