Well in order to keep their Round of 64 and postseason play chances alive, the Huskers did what they needed to do this weekend against Northwestern. To keep their hopes alive they probably need to win 6 out of 9 in their last series and do well in the Big Ten Tournament to stay on the bubble according to the latest projections. They fell out of the mix last week in the D1 Projection.
Cornhuskers took the series in a rubber match on Sunday winning 11-0 in a shut out in Rocky Miller Park in Evanston, Illinois. Huskers had a total of 14 hits including a solo homerun by Ben Miller in the 8th inning (his 4th on the year). Jake Placzek recorded the only double on the day. Luis Alvarado went 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs on the day,and sophomore Ryan Boldt was 3 for 6 with 2 RBIs. Big Red needs more production in the bats down the stretch to compete on the next level.

Husker Pitcher Derek Burkamper managed well over 7 innings giving up only 6 hits. The good news is there were 7 strikeouts and only 1 double, but the bad news is 3 walks. Putting guys on base down the stretch will be costly. Good news is there were no errors in the field on the day. Garrett King and Jake Myers each managed an inning of work only giving up 1 hit combined. Good things overall from the bullpen as Howell, Hohensee, Roeder and Chestnut saw work this weekend only giving up 4 hits in a total of 6.2 innings.
Even Coach Darin Erstad admits they are fighting for their post season at every game. Coach said he felt like they played pretty good defense but knows they need to produce things offensively to keep moving forward.

On Saturday the Huskers lost 5-0 depite getting 11 hits. They also had 8 strike outs. Big Red won Friday 4-2 (12 hits and 9 strikeouts). No midweek games as the students head toward finals. They host Purdue at home starting on Saturday at 2. Reveles is still nursing a broken finger and no one is committing to when he’ll be back in the field.
Purdue comes to town with a 15-33 record, 2-16 in the conference. Huskers would help themselves out if they swept the Boilermakers. After that it ramps up with Illinois on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday series. The Illini are currently coming off a 21 game winning streak so far after sweeping Ohio State this weekend. Analysts are saying it will be Maryland and Illinois battling for the Big Ten big and the at large. Get out to Haymarket and cheer on the Huskers. GO BIG RED!!
