Husker 2015 NFL Draft Preview

By this time next Thursday, the 2015 NFL Draft will be under way and this year’s crop of player’s could set an all-time NFL record for viewership. Last year the NFL posted a record of 32 million viewers for the 1st round alone and the entire draft combined for 12.4 million viewers between the NFL Network and ESPN.

Those are certainly some gaudy numbers. But, the only numbers that the Cornhusker faithful will be concerned with is; how many will be selected and in which round? We’re all familiar with the prospective draftees so, let’s take a look and see where they might be selected.

1.

STRENGTHS: Randy is one of the premier pass rushers in this NFL draft class and will most likely be selected in the 1st round. He has a non-stop motor, is explosive off the edge and has long arms that help him stay away from blockers.

WEAKNESSES: His real weakness is that he has a lean frame and trouble keeping weight on. As a result seems to struggle holding his ground in the run game.

COMPARISON: Aldon Smith

Gregory is one of the premier pass rushers in this NFL draft class and is a freakish athlete. Unless he can add and keep on weight, he’ll most likely be used as an outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme.
. 6-5/235. Nebraska Cornhuskers. RANDY GREGORY - DE

AMEER ABDULLAH - RB. 2.

STRENGTHS: Ameer is great at running behind his pads and being able to cut and change direction on a dime is a plus! His desire to be great and his refusal to be outworked by anyone is perhaps his greatest asset.

WEAKNESSES: He struggles in pass protection, his receiving skills need refining and his ball security keeps being brought up but he’s made considerable strides in his senior year in that regard.

COMPARISON: Andre Ellington

Abdullah is rated by most as the 3rd best back in this class behind Toddy Gurley and Melvin Gordon. As a result, he should be picked somewhere in the 2nd round.
. 5-9/205. Nebraska Cornhuskers

4/5.

STRENGTHS: Kenny is fast, runs a crisp and precise route and is good at going up for the ball and making the catch. He’s also a pretty good open field blocker and is a lot stronger than his slim frame portrays.

WEAKNESSES: He’s a little rigid in his movements and can have difficult getting off the line when being pressed. He has shown the ability to get a little worn down as the season goes along.

COMPARISON: Kenny Stills

Bell holds several records for receiving at Nebraska and has done it with an unlikely group of passers over the course of his career. He should turn heads once he’s in training camp, showing the team that picked him that he was a steal.
. 6-1/197. Nebraska Cornhuskers. KENNY BELL - WR

ZAIRE ANDERSON - LB. 7.

STRENGTHS: Zaire Anderson is very athletic playmaker. He has a nose for the football and is a solid tackler.

WEAKNESSES: He needs to learn the position a little more which will come with experience. He’s a little slow for an outside linebacker.

Anderson could be another sleeper in this draft. He has the knack for making plays and didn’t get a ton of reps early on in his career, being taken off the field in favor of a nickel back in Bo Pelini’s scheme.
. 5-11/228. Nebraska Cornhuskers

7.

STRENGTHS: Corey Cooper is a physical specimen and is good in run support. He’s a hard hitter that can punish receivers.

WEAKNESSES: He needs to work on his angles a little more and he gets caught out of position more often than he should.

Coooper will likely be drafted near the end of the draft and should stick somewhere at strong safety. He has a good combo of size/speed/strength that every team clamors for. He’d benefit greatly from being drafted by a team who has a solid strong safety for him to learn under.
. 6-1/211. Nebraska Cornhuskers. COREY COOPER - DB

FA. Jake Cotton, Josh Mitchell and Trevor Roach will probably be undrafted free agents. You can argue that it’s better to be an undrafted free agent as opposed to a 6/7 round pick so, you can choose where you want to compete at. All three will have to impress in rookie camp to stick with their team. My pick for one to stick would be Roach.. Jake Cotton - OL, Josh Mitchell - DB, Trevor Roach - LB. . UNDRAFTED FREE AGENTS

Regardless of the outcome GO BIG RED!!
