Husker Baseball takes on Michigan: game 1 (and wins BIG)

It was a beautiful 75 degree night at Hawks field for the Huskers to start conference play against Michigan. Chance Sinclair was on the hill for the Big Red as they were dressed in their Scarlet tops and white pants. Nebraska took game 1 with a final score of 3-14.

In the first inning Michigan pitcher Brett Adcock walked Jake Placzek, Blake Headley and Tanner Lubach in order. Ben Miller drove in the first run with a single, and after that Austin Darby added in 2 RBIs on a single, Myers tacked on another, and Reveles added another hit to bring in a 5th run for the Huskers very early in the game. Adcock threw over 40s in the 1st inning and was gone in the 2nd but the damage was done.

Oliver Jaskie came on late in the 2nd inning. (Adcock finished with 57 pitches) This can figure well for the Huskers over the weekend. Adcock had been used as a reliever last year and I don’t think he’s the Friday night Ace Michigan had in mind. After Jaskie came into the game and ended up tossing a couple innings, Michigan kept going to the bullpen and would end the night using up a total of 5 pitchers.

Chance Sinclair only allowed only 8 hits in 6 innings. He benefitted from good Husker defense and managed to come away with the win. There was also a pretty good crowd considering the competition for basketball games up in Omaha. Husker Nation numbered 3,809. Not a bad showing for March Madness.

For Nebraska, Steven Reveles was back in the order after a tweaky hamstring. He looked good as he burned a double play to end the second inning. Still no sighting of Hohensee. I’m hoping he gets to the mound soon.

Husker Hitters: DIRTY DOUBLER club included Ben Miller and Blake Headley.  Ryan Boldt hit a 2RBI Homer in the top of the third inning. Pretty much all but 1 in the starting lineup had a hit but they all made it on base.

Basically Nebraska hit a LOT (13) and walked a LOT (13). I could go through each hit and each position substitute but just suffice it to say 14 Huskers batted or were in the field at some point and from the mound Fisher, Miller and Knutson all had an inning of relief. This means that the NASTY boys (Howell, Chestnut & Roeder) have fresh arms for the rest of the weekend. And Michigan will be pitting the water boy.

Big Red is back on the mound tomorrow at 2:05 at Hawks Field. Let’s face it, your brackt is toast so you might as well go to the game. GO BIG RED!!!
