Husker Baseball chops down the Sycamores
By Kelli Anne
Husker Baseball enjoyed another sunny but cool day at the home field in Lincoln today taking the sweep over Indiana State, 2-3. On the mound for the Big Red was Zack Engleken. He lasted 4.1 innings before giving the ball over to Jake Myers. On a chilly day he was relegated to a lot of fast balls as it was not easy gripping the ball. He managed 5 Ks (a career high for him) and gave up only 4 hits, but one was a homerun to Sycamore after a long rest break in the 5th where the Huskers rolled through 7 batters. Engleken threw for 3 more outs than his last outing on the mound, a good sign for the youngster.

Myers came in and handled no more than 4 batters in each inning for 5,6, and 7. At the end of the day after 2.2 innings the lefty finished with 3 Ks and only allowed 2 hits and got the W. Freshman Nate Fisher came on in the 8th making his 3rd appearance. He gave up 1 hit and recorded 2 Ks. Roeder came in to close out the 9th with the score 2-3, Huskers leading. He finished the inning with defensive outs and a low pitch count (9) grabbing the save.
Big Red Bats: After fouling off multiple pitches in the 4th inning, Austin Darby finally got after one and sent the ball into the Sycamore team bullpen (and into the wind) for a 2RBI HOMERUN! Blake Headley continued his assault on the Double statistics as he logged in his 7th for the year. Other than that, Catcher Taylor Fish went 3 for 3 with singles but no RBIs. As a team Nebraska struck out 6 times and earned 8 hits.
Out of the lineup today was Schleppenbach, Lubach, Christensen (hamstring) and Reveles (hamstring). Fish was the catcher, Placzek at 2nd base and Edrington at shortstop for the Huskers. Midweek is always a chance for others to log in some time on the diamond. Pitcher Jake Hohensee is still said to be very close to taking the mound (within a week) after some arm issues.

Probably the bright spot today was Taylor Fish who got some experience last year filling in for Lubach after an injury. He only had 3 hits all last year and matched that today.
