Husker baseball kicked off at Hawks Field today in near 70 degree temperatures. It was a fantastic day for baseball in Lincoln and the Huskers finished the day with another W. They played against Northern Colorado who was outhitting the Big Red for a while but never outscoring them. Bears end the day with 11 hits and Huskers log in with 8 hits. But most importantly the Huskers take the game 3-9.
The beginning of the game was a story of walks, errors and wild pitches for NC Bears which put the Huskers ahead 7-0 by the second inning. The Bears used up 4 different pitchers in their efforts to get back some hits but only managed 11 hits and 3 runs in front of a record crowd of 4,121 people. This is the largest opening day crowd since 2012.

Garett King, Max Knutson, Reece Eddins and Colton Howell were all on the rubber for the Huskers. King pitched 4 innings, Knutson threw for 2, with Eddins being relieved at 1 1/3rd and Howell finishing up with 1 and 2/3 of just filthy stuff getting 3 k’s in the 6 batters he faced. King had only 15 pitches to get through the top of the order in the first and had 2 innings with only 3 batters to the plate. Howell continues to be shut down dirty.
The CRUSH award goes to Blake Headley who had 2 triples on the day and 3 RBIs. A total of 8 hits for the Huskers on the day produced 9 runs. DH Miller had 3 RBIs with only 1 hit and was on base twice due to errors and on base after being hit by a pitch putting him 1/4 on the day.
