Countdown . . .to . . Nebraska SOFTBALL!

Later today the 18th-ranked Nebraska softball team opens its 2015 season at the Hotel Encanto Invitational in Las Cruces, NM. This will be Nebraska’s 40th anniversary season and the team is anxious to begin their quest for an NCAA tournament berth. Huskers open their season Friday, Feb. 6 with games against Colorado State and host New Mexico State. They will face Montana and Texas Tech on Saturday and end the 3-day tournament with a Sunday game against UTSA.

Huskers finished the 2014 season with a record of 44-18. It was their second straight 40-win season. NU shared the Big Ten regular-season championship with Michigan in 2014 and it was also their 19th conference championship.

Nebraska returns 8 starting position players this season. The roster includes one All-American and 5 All-Conference performers. Only junior, right-handed pitcher Emily Lockman returns from last season.

Among the 8 new Huskers for 2015 is senior All-American Steph Pasquale (transferring in from Temple) and sophomore Cassie McClure (transferring in from Texas Tech). Steph Pasquale is one of 50 players nationally named to the preseason USA Softball Player of the Year watch list. She is one of just 12 players nationally that was named to that list in 2014 as well.

Beginning her 23rd season as Husker head coach is Rhonda Revelle. She is the longest serving women’s head coach in the history of Nebraska Athletics. Alongside her is associate head coach, Lori Sippel who is in her 26th year at Nebraska. Completing the coaching staff in her seventh season is assistant coach Diane Miller. Revelle, Sippel and Miller were named the Midwest Region Coaching Staff of the Year in both 2013 and 2014.
