In the smallbore competition, Alex Lorentz fired a personal-best score of 584. Denise Martin added her score of 584, Lauren Phillips and Maggie Mical added scores of 578 and 576 while Kelsey Hansen shot a 574. The team finished with a combined score of 2,312. For TCU, Sally Li and Hannah Black fired scores of 584, piloting the team to a 15 point lead over Nebraska with a total score of 2,327.

Fifteen points may not seem like a lot, but in rifle competition it is significant. The Huskers needed near flawless performances in air rifle to overcome TCU.  Jaycee Carter tied her career-high air rifle score of 593. Lauren Phillips’ followed close behind with a score of 589. Those scores helped NU beat the Frogs in air rifle by a score of 2,354-2,351, but it was not enough to propel the Huskers past TCU for the overall win.

The Huskers needed a good score to help them in the upcoming NCAA qualifiers. The qualifying score they use is the highest score from a home match. Their best score of the season prior to Saturday was 4,653 from their Oct. 12 match against Ole Miss. The Huskers will take the higher score of 4,666 from the TCU shoot into the NCAA qualifier.

>>The last home shoot for the Nebraska Rifle Team was supposed to occur on Sunday, Feb.1,2015. A winter storm derailed the grand plans on Sunday. Huskers had hoped to face the Midshipmen of Navy rifle team after enjoying a free brunch with fans sponsored by HyVee supermarkets. Further, it would have been Senior Day for the only senior on the team, Kelsey Hansen. The shoot and the event were cancelled.
