Husker Corner rundown on recruits and a healthy Jackson

Defensive back Charles Jackson got the all clear to play from the doctors the other day and he’s more than ready to get back at it on the field. He took a redshirt for 2014 after injuring his knee in August of 2014. The DB from Spring, Texas had been tagged as the starting nickelback for the Huskers when the injury occurred. Jackson was a 4 star recruit from 2011 and keeps 2 years of eligibility.

Coaches have been rather busy on the road as their twitter map revealed.  Coach Read went out and visited Matt Snyder who had originally committed to Oregon St. but later flipped to Nebraska. According to rivals.com he has a “solid verbal” to Nebraska. The three start Tight End had recently visited Michigan and Harbough called personally to offer Snyder but it “didn’t happen as smoothly as both parties would’ve liked.” My bet is he’s coming to Nebraska based on his previous commitment to Coach Riley.

Coach Riley recently met with Michael Decker and Daishon Neal in Omaha. He has told the media he wants to “own Nebraska” for recruiting. I think a lot of owning Nebraska involves the walk on program. In his first press conference Riley had spoken about how important he felt a walk on program is to a school (music to my ears). As for me, I think it’s one of the best things about the Huskers and it’s fallen by the wayside a little. You may have seen twitter photos of Neal wearing a Sooner jersey (oh the humanity!) but this may have been more for attention than a real interest (reading between the lines). Just yesterday Neal was tweeting about lifting together with Decker. If he was going to go south why bother making local friends.

Speaking of Decker and the O Line, Coach Cavanaugh is riding high on the recruiting buzz from landing a commit from big Jalin Barnett. Not resting on his laurels, Coach secured a visit from Darrin Paulo and Fred Ulu-Perry. This is a Hawaiian connection and could reap many rewards. Paulo is a 4 star according to 247 at offensive guard listed at 6′ 7″ and 335 lbs. His other options include Oregon and Washington State but has been offered by USC and UCLA as well, back in spring of 2014.  Ulu-Perry was rumored to be making a visit to Nebraska but Mike Schaefer reported that he has said it’s pretty much a done deal with UCLA. Don’t forget Christian Gaylord is also projected to put his name on the dotted line for the Huskers. Well done Coaches!

Big visits set for this weekend in Lincoln. It’s being called the “meet-and-greet.” On tap to visit are commits Tyrin Ferguson, South Carolina transfer Kaiwan Lewis (more on him later) and Kansas St. commit Mohamed Barry. Other defensive players on the list include uncommitted safety Willie Sykes [update: now committed to Wash St.], twin commits Khalil and Carlos Davis, and Daishon Neal. On the offensive side of the like Jared Bubak (2016), Michael Decker, Christian Gaylord, John Raridon (2016) and running back Devine Ozigbo.

When we know more we’ll let you know, in the meantime, GO BIG RED!!!
