Kaylee Page, the 2014 Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year, very quietly left the Nebraska women’s basketball team last month. Coach Connie Yori released a statement on Tuesday, Dec.10, 2014 announcing Page’s departure. (Kaylee is #2 in the photo)

“We understand that young people will go through some tough times in their growth toward maturity,” Yori said by way of explanation. “The transition into college is often difficult for student-athletes and their parents. In our program, we encourage our student-athletes to trust the process and work hard to improve each day, and good things will happen.”

Yori announced that Nebraska had released Page from her scholarship. In addition, her younger sister, Lanie, was released from her national letter of intent with Nebraska at the family’s request. Lanie, a Kansas All-State player in 2014, is currently a senior at Wamego High School in Wamego, KS this year.

Kaylee Page, a native of Alma, Kansas, came to Nebraska as a nationally ranked player. She played for Wamego High School on the girl’s basketball team coached by her father. She is the school’s all-time leader in points (1,755), rebounds (761) and blocks (355), leading Wamego to a State Championship in 2013. Both Kaylee and Lanie grew up in a basketball household and they developed their skills playing club basketball for the Mo-Kan Eclipse in Kansas City, Mo. In her short career at Nebraska, Page played in five games. She scored two points in Nebraska’s win against Alcorn State on Nov. 16.

It was revealed recently that Kaylee Page has enrolled at Kansas State hoping to walk-on and play on the women’s basketball team. Page will not be eligible to play for K-State until the end of the fall semester in December, 2015 as per NCAA transfer rules. Kansas State doesn’t have any scholarships available to give, but Page hopes she can eventually earn one.

In a recent interview, Kaylee commented that “I’m really happy that I’m closer to home and being able to have family members and friends come (to games).”  Considering that her sister Lanie is not yet committed to any school, will Lanie be joining Kaylee at Kansas State?? Kaylee has indicated that she would love to play on a team with her sister once again.

Obviously, Kaylee and Lanie Page are very skilled basketball players. They would have been major contributors to the Nebraska program. Family is clearly important in their lives as is playing basketball together on the same team. Husker Nation wishes them well in their future.
