Saturday Bowl Game & TV info (since the Huskers don’t play)

facebooktwitterreddit

Strong running games, option football, solid defenses, head coaches leaving…no, not another story on the Huskers but those are some similarities for the Bowl Games this weekend. Here’s the quick run down for games on Saturday, Dec. 20th.

R+ L Carriers New Orleans Bowl is an early 10 am CDT start time on ESPN. This game pits the Nevada Wolf Pack against the Louisiana-Lafayette Rajun Cajuns. I will bet serious ca$h the tailgating will be great! All the Louisiana schools know how to tailgate. If you want updates on the game or some stories to read up about the Cajuns, check out my sports editor friend, Luke Johnson on Twitter @LukeJohnsAdv.   I’m taking the Cajuns and their running game (because I miss watching Huskers Abdullah) against the Wolf Pack just based on the tailgate food alone. Current spread on the game is Cajuns +1.

Gildan New Mexico Bowl is next at 1:20 CDT on ESPN being played in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This game features Utah State Aggies against UTEP Miners. While showing a nice run game and winning some close ones this year it’s more than likely that this isn’t going to be pretty for UTEP. The Aggies play a tougher schedule and come in at 9-4 versus the 7-5 Miners.  The spread on this one is Utah State – 10.

Probably the worst named/sponsored bowl is the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl. But you’re in Vegas so do you really care? This game is on ABC at 2:30 CDT. Royal Purple is a brand of motor oil. (I didn’t know this.) This game matches up the Utah Utes against the Colorado State Rams. The Rams have the better record at 10-2 versus 8-4. Utah has a strong defense and beat big names like Stanford and USC this year. And don’t forget Rams Head Coach Jim McElwain will soon be wearing the Gator colors. I’m not likely to wager on this one given the variables but Las Vegas line says Utah -3.

Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. Fun enough name, plenty of options for tailgate food where Western Michigan will play Air Force. Not really well known for their tailgating but maybe with it being played in Boise, Idaho there will be some pre game festivities.  If you’re into option football (like most Husker fans are) Air Force is your team. Broncos mix up the run with the pass. Defense wins championships so I’m going with the Falcons on this one. The game is on ESPN at 4:45 CDT. This is another close one with Vegas thinking small numbers and Air Force -1.5.

Last but not least is the Raycom Media Camilla Bowl game matching up South Alabama Jaguars versus Bowling Green Falcons. The game can be seen on ESPN at 8:15 CDT. Remember what I said about the worst named bowl game….yeah, THIS one has to be the winner. Like the law of the jungle, I’m going with the Jags in this one. They are riding a high of their first bowl game since joining the FBS in 1012 and they play with pride. Falcons do like to take to the air so it could go either way. Vegas is saying Jaguars -3.

Look for our pre Christmas Bowl Game  line up and the rest of our bowl predictions on Husker Corner as the week progresses.  In the meantime rest up and get ready to cheer on the HUSKERS Dec. 27th at 7:00 pm CDT. GO BIG RED!
