Top 5 To-Do list for Huskers Coach Riley & 5 things NOT to do
By Kelli Anne
Nebraska Head Football Coach Mike Riley had his first press conference today. I was impressed, and I’m a pretty tough critic about live speaking. I also like that when he met with the players he was wearing a suit. Great first impression. Coach Riley met with the players and there were a lot of great tweets out there from Jordan Westerkamp and Michael Rose-Ivey and others. Coach Riley said he was impressed that the players all came up to him at the meeting and shook his hand and introduced themselves to him. All good things indeed!
My take on the press conference and the Top 5 to-do and NOT to-do list (and a Top 5 wish list because it’s Christmas season afterall).
TO DO: #1 –Answer the question. (He answers the actual question!) #2 – Give a good press conference. (He doesn’t have annoying habits like “um” or “ahhhhh….”) #3 – Mean what you say. (he backs up his statements with a story/reference) #4 – Walk ons…KEEP THEM! (He is a supporter of WALK ON program!!!) and #5 – Be a good guy. (He said a lot of the right things.)
The things the Coach should NOT do: #1 – do NOT open practice up to the public (that would be utter chaos) #2 – Don’t adopt bullet phrases (some will happen, it’s inevitable) #3 – Don’t let Kaz, Warren, & Brown go from the current staff (they are really good guys) #4 – Don’t worry about the negative fans, they’ll come around. (some people always gotta hate) and #5 – Do NOT, I repeat, NOT change the N on the helmet!!! (it speaks for itself)
Things I want the Coach to do: #1 – Enjoy a Runza #2 – Get some press photos in Husker Red out there #3 – Give me an interview (I mean this is a wish list after all) #4 – Bring Nike into the program and #5 – (Most importantly) Get support from the FANS!

Coach Riley didn’t spill the beans on his assistants and was honest about the fact that some guys don’t even know their being considered yet. I’m loving the honesty. I’m sure that will all come down soon enough. No time to waste. But now it’s time to get the boys ready for the bowl game yet to be announced. GO BIG RED!!!
