Meet your Cornhusker Sr Linebackers: Anderson, Roach & Williams

There Nebraska Cornhuskers have 13 Seniors on the Defensive roster this year. Jamal Turner will get another year of eligibility due to his Achilles tendon tear in early September and is expected to return to the team. However, for three linebackers, Zaire Anderson, Trevor Roach, and Austin Williams, Saturday will be the last time they step into Memorial Stadium to play in front of the over 91,000 cheering fans.

Austin Williams, #24 is a walk on from Omaha who helped out in a special teams role as well as backup play at linebacker. He started his career at UNL in the secondary and then moved to linebacker in the 2012 season. He is on the way to graduating with a degree in finance in December.

A graduate of Burke Highs School, Williams was was selected to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in fall of 2012 and 2011 Big 12 Commissioner’s Spring academic Honor Roll. Along with a list of volunteer efforts, he earned a spot on the 2014 Brook Berringer Citizenship Team and Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.

Trevor Roach, #43 is another Nebraska native having come to us from Elkhorn. Roach is also a finance major and a linebacker who has had some standout performances this year. He was named to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll for the past 6 semesters and on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll twice. He earned a spot on both the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team and Brook Berringer Citizenship Team due to his volunteer activities outside the classroom.

A graduate of Elkhorn High School where he played linebacker and running back, he has provided needed depth in the linebacker corps throughout his Husker career. He unfortunately missed the 2013 season due to injury and redshirted his freshman year in 2010.

Zaire Anderson, #13 comes to the Huskers from Philadelphia. He came to the program from Riverside California Community College and is earning his degree in child, youth and family sciences. Bitten by the injury bug in 2012 he was awarded a medical hardship. He was named to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll for the spring 2014 semester and also volunteers his time outside his busy schedule.

Anderson has recorded a total of 69 total tackles this season and can has versatility for both outside spots. He’s been called the best linebacker this season has to offer and Ameer Abdullah called him one of the toughest to take on in pass blocking practice.
