Husker Football: Knee-Jerk Reactions: Wisconsin

facebooktwitterreddit

Well, Husker football fans, this is one of those situations that doesn’t even cause anger, but rather disappointment. As great as it is to get a surprise commitment in Reuben Jones, the future is fun to think about, but the here and now, well, it ain’t great.

What did we take away from the de facto Big Ten West championship game?

– Melvin Gordon’s an amazing football player. It’s a shame both he and Ameer Abdullah weren’t 100 percent and had the same great blocking.

– Unfortunately, any slim chance that Abdullah had at a Heisman run is has now been snuffed out.

He will leave Lincoln holding many records and as one of the most beloved guys to ever wear the Scarlet and Cream, but he does deserve that bronze statue.

– That the starting offensive line has been allowed to play as much as it has is not only a disgrace, but it’s an insult to those who haven’t.

– If Charlie McBride was defensive coordinator, he would bring his starting 11 in the locker room once they returned along with a big ol’ shredder.

I can hear ol’ Charlie. “Congratulations, boys, you allowed 56 unanswered points. Then you helped set an NCAA record by allowing the most rushing yards in FBS history…in only three quarters.” Shred the Blackshirts.

Barring severe pummelings from here on out, none deserve to wear them. Maybe not even then.

More from Husker Corner

– Not much more needs to be said, except that this is not only another big game that Bo Pelini lost, but was embarrassed in. The third by Wisconsin, even.

He’s allowed some of the worst defensive performances in 125 years of Nebraska football history. This is not opinion, this is fact.

Take from that what you will.

– The next thing this team needs to do is simple: focus on David Cobb and the University of Minnesota. Senior Day will not be an easy go in Lincoln. The last thing the Huskers need is a two-game losing streak heading into Iowa City.

– Finally, if you’re on Twitter or some social network that gives you access to players, DO NOT contact them with ANY negative commentary. In fact, just leave ’em alone, period.
