The 13th ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers Volleyball team had a great week. Along with sweeping both opponents last week, they Huskers kept the brooms out to sweep #12 Purdue and Indiana! That’s 4 sweeps in the last 4 games after being swept by Wisconsin on October 26. In case you’re counting, Huskers have already compiled 11 sweeps for the season, and with Michigan State and Maryland up next at Devaney, two more sweeps are highly possible.
12th ranked Purdue Boilmakers came calling on Nov. 5th but they were no match for the Husker Volleyball team who won in three sets, 25-21, 25-22, and 25-20. Bakersfield, CA, junior Kelsey Fien ended the night with a team leading 15 kills while hitting .278. As a team, the Huskers hit .255 for the match while holding Purdue to .057. The Boilermakers were also no match for the Husker defense who compiled 17 blocks on the night. Junior Meghan Haggerty had a season best 11 block night.
November 8, the Huskers faced Indiana in front of the 214th home sellout crowd. It was a Husker White-Out in which all the Husker fans were wearing white volleyball shirts given out at the game. The Huskers handled business beating the Hoosiers in three sets, 25-14, 25-17, and 25-12. As a team the Huskers hit for a season high .525 while holding the Hoosiers to a season low 0.13 hitting percentage. Once again Kelsey Fien led the team in kills with 11, with a career high hitting percentage of .526. and senior setter Mary Pollmiller had a season best 7 kill night to go along with all the Husker success.
As a result of the sweeps, the Lady Huskers moved up to 11th in the AVCA Volleyball Poll released on Monday. On top of that two Husker Players received Big Ten Honors on Monday. Kelsey Fien was named Big Ten Player of the Week, and Meghan Haggerty was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week. The Huskers are now 16-7 overall and moved up to 4th in the Big Ten with a 10-4 record.

The next two games for the Huskers will be at home in the Devaney Center. On Wednesday, November 12, at 7 pm (CST) the Husker face 13-12 Michigan State (6-7 B1G) and on Sunday, November 16, at 2 pm (CST) the Huskers face 9-16 Maryland (2-12 B1G). No television is slated for the Michigan State game but you can view the Maryland game on NET, and as always, both Husker games will be available on the Husker Radio Network affiliates.
