Meet Your Omaha Mammoths: BIG Jake McDonough #92
By Kelli Anne
Time to meet Jake McDonough, who is a towering 6’ 5”, 290 lb. Defensive Lineman from Iowa State. While I don’t envy the guys he punishes across the line from him, he is a wonderful ambassador for the Omaha Mammoths. When asked about his experience so far, he replied, “It’s been a very positive experience so far. I wasn’t sure what to expect with FXFL. Having ESPN3 definitely helps the NFL teams to see us on film. “

This big tower of a frame was a free agent who signed with the NY Jets in July of 2013. He later played for the Portland Thunder Arena League. In December of 2013 he was signed to the Indianapolis Colts practice squad. He eventually signed with the Washington Redskins in July of 2014, and was then waived in August.
Jake confessed he was a bit of an Air Force brat and is used to moving around. He said he was raised in Iowa, so Omaha isn’t that different to him compared to some of the guys who are used to the really big cities.
When asked about his field experience he stated,” It’s great working with Coach Dave Tollefson. I’m learning a lot from him and his coaching style. He’s great about sharing what he’s learned while with the Giants and Raiders. It’s helping me grow as a Defensive Lineman.”
McDonough’s smile is something I doubt this Woolly Beast brings to the field but I asked BIG JAKE (that’s what I called him) for the best thing about the FXFL for him so far. He replied, “The best thing about the league is I can stay in game shape. There is no real way to do that, be ready for down after down after down. It’s the only way to be ready to get up to the next level.”

As for how this season is shaping up, he thinks this team has a really good chemistry. He admitted they are competing with each other to get to the NFL, but when they are on the field, “it’s all about making us better as a unit and team. And if someone gets called up, we’re excited for them. It’s a good sign for all of us.” JoJo Dickenson (LB, Idaho) and Lanier Coleman (DL La-Lafayette) were asked to tryout for NFL teams just this week.
The Pittsburgh Steelers reported they are looking at Safety Jordan Dangerfield from the Brooklyn Bolts and may sign him as soon as Wednesday.
Come cheer on the Omaha Mammoths defense this Wednesday night at TD AMERITRADE as they #STOMP on the Boston Brawlers. The game starts at 7:00 pm.
