Husker Football: Nebraska Fan’s TV Guide for Week Eight

facebooktwitterreddit

Husker Football fans, it’s time for another installment of the TV Guide designed specifically for you.

It’s an interesting week both in the B1G TEN and especially out of the league. If the Huskers win out they’ll be in direct competition for a playoff spot with many teams who will have played tougher schedules, so every game, especially those top-25 matchups count.

A slight disclaimer, I took a few liberties this week with the guide adding a few games per time slot so multiple televisions will be handy.

Like always, you provide the food and drinks, I’ll provide the tailor-made viewing guide. Enjoy the viewing this week, Husker Football fans!

(All times are central)

Saturday, October 18

11:00 a.m. – No. 4 Baylor at West Virginia (Fox Sports One)

Don’t blink during this one. The total, according to Las Vegas, has this one sitting around 80 combined points and honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if it went higher. I didn’t include this for anything other than sheer OFFENSIVE entertainment value as both teams will likely light it up.

The Bears are fighting to stay perfect after the scare against TCU last week, but WVU won’t just lie down. The Mountaineers have scored more than 30 points in all but one game and Clint Trickett, WVU quarterback has throw for 2203 yards and 12 touchdowns.

11:00 a.m. – Iowa at Maryland (ESPN2)

All of a sudden Iowa looks like a real player in the B1G TEN West Division. Sitting at 5-1 and 2-0 in the conference, the Hawkeyes will head to Maryland for what could turn out to be a major test.

CJ Brown, quarterback for the Terps, is the real deal as a a dual threat quarterback. Iowa, on the other hand, is riding high after posting 45 points against Indiana. As a team, the Hawks rushed for 207 yards and recorded three touchdowns against the Hoosiers.

Can they sustain their offensive success against the Terps? I’m going to lean toward ‘yes’, but if you make me choose, I’d pick Maryland in a high scoring affair.

2:30 p.m. – Rutgers at No. 13 Ohio State (ABC/ESPN2)

Rutgers was scoffed at to start the season, their first in the B1G TEN, but now at 5-1, they’re making people take notice. Start with quarterback Gary Nova who is completing passes at a 62% clip while tossing 1601 yards and 13 touchdowns. Where he gets into trouble is having seven interceptions. If the Scarlett Knights are going to pull off the upset they’ll need to win the turnover battle (which they’ve done three times so far in 2014). The one game where they did lose the turnover margin, they lost to Penn State (their only loss of the season) with a minus four difference.

Pay attention to this one, Husker football fans, as a win here for Rutgers could spark some confidence for them when they head into Lincoln.

2:30 p.m. – No. 21 Texas A&M at No. 7 Alabama (CBS)

While not necessarily Husker related, this game has major national relevance as playoff positioning comes to the forefront. I don’t foresee anyone in the SEC West finishing undefeated, so winning all that you can becomes very important. These two teams have played some good ones over the past few seasons and I am hopeful 2014 is no different.

Texas A&M has the No. 6 scoring offense in the NCAA while the Alabama Crimson Tide sport the No. 6 scoring defense. It’s a classic matchup. Who wins? Don’t tell my wife (an Auburn fan), but I’m taking Bama.

6:30 p.m. – No. 19 Nebraska at Northwestern (Big Ten Network)

When you add up the point differential between these two teams for the last three years, the grand total is just seven points. That’s not average, that’s the actual total. So what does one expect from this one? I’m going to say a Husker cover (I’ve seen the line hovering around -7), but I wouldn’t be surprised if this one is close the whole way through. The Cats from Evanston seem to have the Huskers matched up pretty well. Hang on tight, this one will be fun.

7:00 p.m. – No. 5 Notre Dame at No. 2 Florida State (ABC)

This is the ‘PREMIER’ game of the week featuring two of the nation’s six undefeated teams. FSU has faced distraction after distraction this season (most of them thanks to last year’s Heisman winner Jameis Winston), while Notre Dame has played solid football and finds themselves squarely in the mix of college football’s final four.

One could argue that outside of any of the remaining SEC west games, this matchup means the most of any remaining game for playoff implications. It’s that big of a game. And as much as it pains me to say as an unabashed Notre Dame hater, the Irish have a good chance in this one.

More from Nebraska Football

Everett Golston is firing on all cylinders, completing 16 touchdowns and 1683 yards through the air. Running the ball, Notre Dame has three players over 200 yards on the season and another at 181 yards.  On the legs of Karlos Williams, the Seminoles have stayed perfect also. He’s rushed for 353 yards on 74 carries.

This is a big game and if you have two TVs it is absolutely worth a watch along side the Husker game.
