Husker Football: Miami Hurricanes Report Card

Defensive Line B
It wasn’t always pretty, but it was effective. The four men up front corralled Duke Johnson for the most part, and the Miami rushing game as a whole only gained 76 yards and a touchdown on 23 attempts.
As far as their pass rush goes, it was inconsistent. The Huskers did collect two big sacks, both by Randy Gregory. One pushed Miami 15 yards downfield after No. 4 eluded an attempted cut block and ripped down Miami’s freshman quarterback.
Linebackers D+
The plus in this rating is specifically for David Santos, who far and away outperformed his cohorts in the linebacking corps.
Santos looked fast and played hard. No. 41 totaled 10 tackles, tops for the team and also added a tackle for loss. Let’s not forget when he laid out and nabbed an interception in the first quarter.
Where the low grade comes from in the inability of the rest of group to make plays in space. They were also downgraded for missed tackles and leaky yardage given up.
Josh Banderas played possibly his worst game as a Husker, regularly getting caught flat-footed when attempting to chase Duke Johnson around the field in coverage.
In relief of Banderas, Trevor Roach played well. Michael Rose-Ivey cannot return fast enough.
