Husker Football – Knee-Jerk Reactions: Miami (FL)

facebooktwitterreddit

Well then. Sept. 20, 2014 will always be remembered as a fun evening for Husker football, don’t you think? The eleventh version of Miami-Nebraska had it all: records breaking, brawls, big hits, the works. If it were a hot dog, it’d be one of those $20 ones you get at a major league ballpark.

Nebraska’s 4-0, swept the non-conference schedule, so what was there to take away from the final game before Big Ten play?

– Ameer Abdullah: This guy’s kinda good. While I don’t know if AA8 wins the Heisman, he’s got to be in line for some heavy Doak Walker Award consideration.

– Jake Cotton: I saw a play during which Abdullah was gobbled up. Cotton blocked absolutely no one and literally shuffled in a circle in bewilderment. If I’m a defensive coordinator, I know where I’m bringing the heat.

The problem is, even if my guys get past Cotton, they still have to take down No. 8. If that doesn’t happen, well…

– Where Has This David Santos Been?: Part of me was wondering if Lavonte David wanted to get as far away from the Buccaneers’ defense as possible. What better way to do that then tie up a linebacker no one expects to do well, shove him in a closet and go have yourself a day?

If the “David Santos” that showed up against Miami can be on the field for the remainder of the season, Nebraska has itself a serious player.

More from Nebraska Football

– Josh Banderas Can Leave Now: Four games in and I think it’s official to call Banderas a liability. I have more faith in what Trevor Roach can do than No. 52 at this point in both of their careers.

Bando the Mando disappointed as much as Santos impressed, if that helps illustrate this point. Keep Roach on the field unless Banderas shows some major improvement.

– Kicking Whoas: Remember when Husker fans were worried about Drew Brown taking over because he was a true freshman and he wasn’t really separating from Mauro Bondi, etc.? Lincolnites who wear red are really, really spoiled when it comes to kickers.

– Hate Me if You Want: It was Miami and I enjoyed the footbrawls. I know I wasn’t the only one, either.
