Husker Football: Five Best Nebraska-Miami Clashes
Bruce Thorson-USA TODAY Sports
Hurricane and Husker football have quite a history together dating back to 1951 when the two programs first met in the Sunshine State. Since that point, Miami and Nebraska played nine more times.
Out of those ten meetings, six have been bowl games, four of those at the historic Orange Bowl in Miami. The other two? 1962’s Gotham Bowl in New York City and 2002’s rendition of ‘The Granddaddy of them All’, the Rose Bowl.
Speaking of that Rose Bowl, not all of the ten games have been classics. The ‘Canes throttled NU 37-14 to earn the BCS National Championship. There were also Orange Bowl match-ups between the two teams, one in 1989 and the other in 1992. Miami won both handily, 23-3 and 22-0, respectively.
The 1992 victory gave the Hurricanes their fourth national championship.
On the other hand, the Cornhuskers won four games in a row including back-to-back years in 1975 and 1976. Both home games for Nebraska saw the Huskers post big wins by the scores of 31-16 and 17-9, respectively
It’s been an interesting rivalry over the years, with no one decade featuring more than a duo of battles between two of college football’s historic powers. That begs the question, what are the top five games in the Nebraska-Miami rivalry over the past 60 years?
Let’s review.
