Coaching/Game Management B+

A big win on the road is nothing to scoff at. Pelini and his coaching staff had the team ready to go, opening up with a 14-0 lead after two possessions and never really looked back.

Six penalties for a total of 61 yards occurred, including more mistakes by the offensive line (those holding calls and false starts we talked about).

The heat played a major part, and I believe the staff was fortunate that they were able to get the game in hand during the second half to be able to rotate more players into the game.

Last week against McNeese State, for example, the defensive line only saw five players take part. This week, guys like Joe Keels, Kevin Maurice and Logan Rath all saw time.

The rotation must improve going forward, but I think the main concern is the that gap between the top unit and the backups is too large in terms of talent.

It didn’t show much on Saturday, but it could against superior competition in Big Ten play.

A special note for the gameday grade: I absolutely loved the all-white uniform the Huskers’ chose to wear on the road this weekend.

It’s a sharp look and one I hope to see the Huskers utilize more often on the road.
