9. Minnesota (8)

Last Week: 42-20 win over Eastern Illinois

Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

Minnesota’s victory over the Panthers may not have been the most flashy. The Gophers were up by only seven points late in the second quarter, after all.

However, that’s the way Jerry Kill’s team plays. Not a lot of style, but plenty of substance.

Minnesota was a surprise team in 2013, as they kept slow and steady before opponents eventually beat themselves. The Gophers did just that to win against the Panthers.

Goldy’s boys were outgained by 73 yards, but they were able to force three turnovers and a block a punt for a touchdown.

Mitch Liedner, considered the Gophers’ rushing quarterback last season, showed improvement in the passing game, but still managed only 144 ugly yards.

This Week: Middle Tennessee (Sept 6 – 2:30 P.M. on BTN)

My Prediction: Minnesota 38-14
