The Five Huskers Who Can’t Afford Injuries
1. Ameer Abdullah
Ever heard the idiom “cut off the head and the snake will die”? If Abdullah goes down, the team will follow. Not immediately, but eventually.
His determination on plays that go nowhere, his energy in the huddle and his sacrifice for the team are only three of No. 8’s positive traits. If the defense feeds off of Gregory, the team feeds off the dark horse Heisman contender.
Meaning absolutely no disrespect to Imani Cross, Terrell Newby or any other running back on the Nebraska football roster, none of them are Abdullah. Absolutely none of them.

A mix and match of Cross and Newby might work against lesser or even average front fours, but any team with an above average defensive line will slow that duo down enough to win.
That’s not even touching on the emotional devastation of losing the senior from Alabama.
There’s only so much Abdullah can do from the sideline. He’ll make a good coach some day, but 2014 can’t be the year he starts if the Huskers are going to have any manner of fruitful year.
