Huskers and Bo Pelini Break Twitter Again for Bigger Picture
The pranks, the cat and now modelling the Huskers’ new alternate uniforms. Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini hasn’t been shy about having fun this offseason and people have taken notice, almost everyone.
When pictures of Nebraska’s alternate uniforms to be worn against Illinois were finally revealed via Twitter, a social media volcano errupted spewing imagery retweet by retweet.
Whether a fan of the Big Red or its alternate uniforms, tweets flooded in. Journalists rushed to get shots of the Red Rising uniforms up, but the Huskers doubled down by having Pelini be this year’s model. It’s nearly impossible to debate that he is the Nick Saban of the offseason.
A “go out and just make plays” attitude may very well net the Huskers even more national spotlight, only this time for what they do with a football and not a feline.
All reports of being laid back and having more fun have been validated in every way.
Now that both digital and print media have been flooded once again thanks to outlandish actions by the Nebraska football program, it’s on to the next stunt, right?
There’s no more time for fun and games. Fall camp starts on Monday and the Huskers kick off against the Florida Atlantic Owls on August 30.
What Pelini has done is brought an immense spotlight back on himself and Nebraska throughout the offseason, only this time it has a positive glow.
Yes, SportsCenter’s looking for the infamous referee shouting matches, but in his seventh year as the Big Red’s head man, he has every reason to have faith in his on-the-field product.
Every offense has questions, but he has a potential road grating terror with all the potential to be one of the best in the country. He has his best defense since Ndamukong Suh roamed the sidelines and a first-round NFL draft pick in defensive end Randy Gregory.
If this team lives up to its potential, there’s no way it doesn’t end up in Indianapolis and, hey, upsets happen. Even in conference title games.
A “go out and just make plays” attitude may very well net the Huskers even more national spotlight, only this time for what they do with a football and not a feline.

Regardless of feelings towards Pelini himself, it’d be hard for any Nebraska fan not to crack a smile while the nation cries foul should the Big Red be in position to…I dunno…pop into the College Football Playoff?
After all, Barry Alvarez and Tom Osborne do sit on the playoff committee, and if Pelini takes the Big Red to heights not seen in years, well…that’s speculation for a later date.
Finally, the eyes that are on Nebraska’s head coach focus even more on potential Heisman Trophy candidate Ameer Abdullah. Some debate that Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon is the Big Ten’s best running back and will reign supreme due to more carries.
While Gordon may have better numbers come year’s end, Abdullah’s the workhorse for this team. That’s his Heisman narrative. He came back to get a college degree (as is family policy) and should he lead the Huskers to a fantastic season, a few less yards will mean little.
Pelini’s had a busy offseason in terms of bringing every camera, microphone and pair of eyeballs he could to Lincoln and convincing them to hang around.
It’s time to show that his coaching can improve just as rapidly as his social media impact.
