Nebraska is…Alberto Del Rio

“Old Money”. Have you heard of that term before? Alberto Del Rio came into WWE as a Mexican aristocrat. He drove fancy cars, his own announcer introduced him to the crowd and he held a great pedigree of professional wrestling outside of the WWE. Doesn’t this sound vaguely familiar?

Nebraska came into the Big Ten with high-caliber players, fancy new facilities, and a great pedigree outside of their new conference. Del Rio won a few championships early on in WWE career, but has since stumbled. “Stagnant” may be the best word to describe his current situation.

Nebraska and its fans could say the same thing. Four-loss “curses”? Maybe, maybe not. However, Bo Pelini’s Huskers have been the epitome of stagnant lately. This is the era of “what have you done for me lately?”

Neither Nebraska nor Del Rio has done much beyond getting to an occasional main event and then fall short.

This was the easiest correlation for me between the WWE and the Big Ten. Nebraska’s “old money” has to find a way to break out of its rut, just like Alberto Del Rio.
