Rose Get His Jersey Number, and Talks Recruiting

Kansas City, MO. Rockhurst High School’s inside linebacker Michael Rose has been committed to Nebraska since July of 2010. He has been one of the biggest pieces to the progress of the 2012 Nebraska’s recruiting class.

“I just like getting to know these other guys,” Rose said. “I mean I talk to some guys (other recruits)  about football, but to me it’s more important to me to build a relationship with them. Yeah we have football in common and to talk about, but I would much rather get to know them personally, so when it comes to talking about Nebraska, and recruiting they know they can trust me, and I am being honest.”

With National Signing Day just eight days away, Rose posted on his Facebook page that people will be surprised on Signing Day. He said he is still committed to Nebraska, but said he was talking about someone else.

“We are just 18, and 19-year-old guys,” Rose said. “With us it’s just all about where we fit in. I obviously want everyone I can to come to Nebraska, but I would rather the guys go where they feel comfortable.  I am still talking to a couple guys and trying get them to sign at Nebraska.”

Rose wouldn’t say who he was still talking to, or trying to recruit but did say he thinks Nebraska fans will be please with this recruiting class.

“I truly believe Nebraska will compete for National Titles in two or three years,” Rose said. “It’s not all about one recruiting class. It’s about two or three recruiting classes jelling together. With the past two  classes Nebraska has brought together, and the one we will sign on Signing Day I believe we can jell in that way.”

As for his signing day plans Rose is set to fax all of his paper work early in the morning when he first gets to school on Feb. 1. As for actually signing the letter, he and four of his teammates will all sign their letters, and take pictures for the media later in the day.

As for what’s next for Michael Rose after the big signature?

“I just am going to  get ready for it,” Rose said about arriving on campus in Lincoln” I am excited to get up there, and see what all intails as a freshman in college. It sounds like I will be able to play early. I want to come in, and be in the best shape I have ever been in. If I can contribute early that would be great.”

Rose said that a couple NU coaches have told him he should be able to compete for playing time early.

“The coaches told me I can contribute early. There have been guys there that have been waiting behind other guys like Lavonte (David), and Will (Compton). I want to make myself, and the guys around me better. Doing that will make the team better. Making the team better helps us compete for championships, and that’s the ultimate goal.”

The one thing that Rose wanted to make sure Husker Nation knows about him is that he is a winner.

“I am coming in to win,” Rose said.” I won’t be satisified just saying I made it to a bowl game. There is nothing wrong with bowl games, I am just not settling for that.  I want a National Championship. That’s why I help recruit.I have been around winning a long time, and I am going to go up there and do my best, and I hope, to be a part of a National Championship team.”

Rose had reserved his jersey number earlier in the week with the Nebraska coaching staff. He picked the number 15, because of strong religous connection to the number through the Bible verse Jeremiah 1.5.

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

I am wearing 15, for that verse,” Rose said.”I am from a very religious family. God called Jeremiah to be a profit of the world from his mothers whom. God had a plan for Jeremiah, and he has a plan for me too.”
