In every young football players life there is always that one school that they, or their parents root for when they are growing up. In the case of Lombard, Illinois Montini High School’s, Jordan Westerkamp that school is Notre Dame. Westerkamp is a 6-foot-2 195 lb 4 star wide receiver prospect, who is currently committed to Nebraska. He recently took a trip to South Bend, Indiana to see the Irish.
“My mom is a huge Norte Dame fan, my dad doesn’t really care that much,” Westerkamp said. “My mom didn’t go to school at Notre Dame she is just a big fan, and I guess I kind of rooted for them growing up. They both want what’s best for me though.”
Notre Dame just recently offered Westerkamp a scholarship after his stellar performance in the State Championship. Westerkamp just got back from his trip to Notre Dame this weekend. He said he took the trip to refresh his memory and see what’s new with the Irish.
“They (Notre Dame) have always been interested in me,” Westerkamp said. “(Secondary coach)Chuck Martin has always liked me. They offered me a couple weeks ago, and I took the trip the week after. It’s just a lot right now. With finals this week, and the trip last weekend I haven’t had a chance to sit down and talk with my parents about my commitment.”
Westerkamp has been a Nebraska commit since May 6, but as far as his commitment goes, he couldn’t say how solid it really is right now.
“I really couldn’t give a number as far as one to ten right now,” Westerkamp said. “All I can say is the visit Notre Dame visit was good, and I had a good time there. I am still committed to Nebraska though.”
Westerkamp said he really likes both of the coaching staffs at both schools, but his relationship with Nebraska’s staff is a little stronger since he has been committed for so long.
“It’s dead week this week, so I can only get one phone call a week from coaches,” Westerkamp said. “I talked to (co-offensive line) coach (John) Garrison today. We just got to catching up on some stuff. He didn’t ask me any questions about Notre Dame. We just talked about Nebraska and some other stuff, but no Notre Dame stuff.”
Westerkamp said the biggest difference between Notre Dame and Nebraska, is the offenses.
“When you look at an offense like Notre Dame they throw first and then run,” Westerkamp said. “Nebraska runs first then throws. Being a receiver you have to pay attention to stuff like that. Obviously I want the ball as much as I can get it. That’s not a huge deal to me, but it’s something to keep an eye on.”
As far as any other visits go, Westerkamp seemed very sure that he was not taking any more visits to anymore schools. He had originally planned to announce his final pledge of commitment on December 29. After the visit to Notre Dame and having such a busy week Westerkamp said he is not sure about that date, or when he will do it now.
“With my busy schedule right now, with finals and all I am not sure when I will set down with my parents.”
