Predicting Tomorrow’s Big 12 Games

Missouri at Kansas St 11 AM

It’s gonna be an early morning wake up call for the game of the day in the conference. K-State is fresh off a solid victory over Nebraska in Lincoln, and could be riding a 6 game winning streak if Rodney McGruder lets go of his 3 pointer 0.2 seconds earlier against Colorado. Meanwhile, Missouri is coming off one of its best performances of the season by smacking the lackadaisical Baylor Bears around and also carries a winning streak into this matchup (4). However, the Tigers haven’t played good on the road and the Wildcats are playing their best ball all season. I think they win by double digits.

Prediction: Kansas St 71, Missouri 58

Texas Tech at Oklahoma St. 12:30 PM

The who cares game of the day. I have very little insight to offer everybody on this. Oklahoma St. is pretty bad, but Texas Tech is worse. I hope I don’t fill my head with the knowledge of who wins this game tomorrow.

Prediction: Oklahoma St 3, Texas Tech 2

Nebraska at Iowa St. 12:45 PM

We all know the scouting report on this Nebraska team (although it could easily be said about all of the conference outside of Kansas and Texas), they struggle on the road. However, they take on the cellar dwellers of the conference in the Cyclones. If the Huskers have any NCAA Tournament aspirations, then this is a must win game for them. Otherwise the best finish to the season would be NIT Champions (which I would take). The previous meeting was decided by a single point in Lincoln. I think Nebraska has one more push in them and gets their second road victory of the season.

Prediction: Nebraska 63, Iowa St 60

Texas at Colorado 3 PM

This is an intriguing matchup. Colorado finds themselves in a similar situation that Nebraska did last week in need of a signature win to give themselves any shot at the NCAA Tournament. With a victory over Texas, I believe their resume would surpass that of the Huskers because of two victories over K-State. With a victory here, the Buffs very easily could win out to get to 9-7 in the conference. They’d be in semi-good shape then heading into the Big 12 Tournament. However, I don’t think the Longhorns let down for a second weekend in a row. Close, but no cigar.

Prediction: Texas 77, Colorado 69

Kansas at Oklahoma 3 PM

The Jayhawks are riding a fine line between a 1 seed and a 2 seed right now which magnifies every game they play the rest of the season. It would be best to not only win this game, but look good in doing so. KU seems to like to win all these types of games by exactly 20 points, a lead they’ll establish in the first half, and then just ride out in the second half as they try to stay awake. The next few weeks are very important for the Jayhawks as they work on getting their injured/suspended players (Ty Tay, T-Robb The Backboard Slobb, and Selby don’t) back into the rotation. Prediction: Kansas 88, Oklahoma 67

Texas A&M at Baylor 8 PM

This could be the biggest toss-up on the conference slate tomorrow. Baylor is playing like a team that has little interest in making the NCAA Tournament after losing to Texas Tech at home last weekend (not to mention a 14 point win over Wayland Baptist!). The Aggies are tough to get a read on because they like to win games by no more than a point or two. So you could either say they’re good in tight games, or they’ve gotten by with good luck so far. You’ll get your answer after the Tournament, fair or not. Baylor could be in trouble if they lose this one, so I think they’ll decide to try.

Prediction: Baylor 69, Texas A&M 62
