A strange, strange ending to that game last night.
Was it a two or was it a three? Obviously, you know the answer by now. It’s rare to see a game end with the winning team heaving up what they hope to be a game-winner at the buzzer, only to see it rim off, and still WIN THE GAME. Of course, the Sooners thought Cade Davis’ miracle shot with 3.8 seconds left was a three pointer, while the refs counted it as a deuce, only to have a review confirm it after the buzzer sounded.
Weird and wild stuff.
Good news for me too, as anybody that read me yesterday saw that I ‘guarantweeped a win.‘ I would’ve felt like a dirty, dirty man tweeting out Boomer Sooner sentiments (especially after being forced to watch Cade Davis for 40 minutes).
So what did last night’s win mean for Husker hoops?
Well, for starters, I heard there name pop up a few times today in reference to the NCAA Tournament, which is now only a month away.
Now none of those mentions conceded that Nebraska was in (or even close to in) the Big Dance just quite yet. But, atleast they are on the radar. They have their chance.
And wouldn’t you know who’s coming to town on Saturday? Only the hottest team in the country. Not to mention, the team that ripped an entire state’s heart out, and then played hacky-sack with it, ending with a sick nasty scruff-of-the-neck-stall last October…
The Texas Longhorns.
It goes without saying how much Nebraska hates Texas. The Huskers couldn’t even join in on the Texas-sized beatdown the rest of the Big 12 laid on the Longhorns in football this year (in honor of the Big Red right?).
Wouldn’t it be ironic if the true revenge was had on the hardwood? The nation seems to be waiting for the Longhorns to fall apart (everybody admits they’re the best team in the country RIGHT NOW, yet nobody is picking them to win it all), maybe Nebraska could initialize the beginning of the end.
It would be a huge statement to the NCAA Selection Committee to pull out a win against the #2 team in the country. With extra at-large bids up for grabs this year, a win like that might be all that it takes to snag a spot in the field.
I think wins in 4 of the next 5 games and the Huskers will be dancing for the first time in 13 years. That’s a tall task, but with Husker hoops, it’s fun just to have a chance.
