Huskers Playing Today
By Editorial Staff
The Huskers out there playing today are few and far between, but they do exist on 3 of the 4 teams (go to hell Steelers!). 3 of the 4 players will be in the first game today (Bears v Packers) with only one to be seen in he last game. Here’s a breakdown of who you might see out there today….
- Josh Bullocks #36, Chicago Bears- Listed as the backup safety to the Bears’ Chris Harris, you’ll most likely see Bullocks on specialty teams. On the season, Bullocks has 11 tackles, with 1 coming for a loss, however it should be noted that the 6 year veteran had a season-high 4 tackles in last week’s divisional round win over the Seahawks. Bullocks could play a key role today because of the edge the Bears have over the Packers in special teams play.
- Zackory Bowman #35, Chicago Bears- Bowman is listed as the nickelback for the Bears, and has 32 tackles and a fumble forced on the season. Z-Bow did not practice throughout the week due to personal reasons, but is listed as active for the game today. The 3rd year veteran has battled numerous injuries throughout his career, some ending his career at Nebraska, but has 7 interceptions in his career. Bowman should see plenty of time on the field today with the Packers’ 3 and 4 wide receiver sets.
- Brandon Jackson #32, Green Bay Packers- Perhaps the most prominent Husker you’ll find in today’s games is listed as the Packers starting running back and has rushed for 703 yards, as well as caught 43 passes for 342 yards, with 4 touchdowns on the season. B-Jack has handed off more of his role to teammate James Starks for the playoffs, but did add a touchdown against the Eagles in the wildcard round. Look for the 4-year veteran to catch a few screen passes today to slow down the Bears’ vaunted pass rush.
- Matt Slauson, New York Jets- Listed as the starting left guard for the Jets. Won the starting spot in a battle that was showcased on Hard Knocks earlier this season and has yet to let go of it. Steven Sipple wrote a great article about Slauson thriving in the Jets’ brash culture, and how he gives a lot of credit for his career’s success to former Nebraska head coach, and current New York Jets offensive line coach, Bill Callahan. Slauson will be a key today as the Jets need to get a rushing attack going if they are to upset the Steelers in Pittsburgh.
