Nebraska Basketball must make sure they get contributions from everybody if they want to advance.

It is time for some more postseason play as the Nebraska Cornhuskers will face the Butler Bulldogs in Game 1 of the NIT Tournament. For Nebraska in particular, they want to make sure that this game will not be the last game of their season.

Butler did not last long in the Big East Tournament which began last Wednesday. Losing to Providence 80-57, they were simply outmatched and outmanned as the Friars took control of the game early on. Sophomore forward Jordan Tucker was the lone bright spot for the Bulldogs in that contest. In 27 minutes, he scored 14 points to lead all Butler scorers. In addition, he recorded two assists and went 4-for-7 from behind the three-point line. Senior forward Nate Fowler led all Bulldogs with five rebounds in that contest.

Junior guard Kamar Baldwin is a player the Cornhuskers should key in on. He leads the team in points and rebounds. Averaging 17.2 points per contest and five rebounds per game, he can do it all. That versatility will have to carry Butler throughout the course of the game as they look to play the role of spoiler for Nebraska’s season.

The Big Picture..

The big thing for Nebraska basketball on Wednesday is to make sure that everybody gets to touch the basketball. James Palmer Jr. cannot be the only one scoring. They need a full team effort if they want to beat Butler. Not only that, they need a full team effort for the entirety of the game. I’d expect Isaiah Roby to have a good game in this one. He has shown throughout the past couple weeks that he can be the team’s go-to scorer and he will need to do that again. In his last game against Wisconsin, Roby played well. He chipped in 13 points on four-of-11 shooting in defeat. Glynn Watson Jr. also did his part in the Wisconsin game. He tallied 23 points on nine-of-21 shooting.

Nebraska basketball needs to make sure that they share the rock. If they play together as a team, they will win. I know it is probably difficult to not just pass the ball to a guy like Palmer and let him work, but they need to have everybody engaged in the game. Even in the NIT, these teams are no slouches, Nebraska basketball included. Selfish play will lead to a loss, and a first round exit is the last thing Nebraska basketball wants to have happen.
