Robert Porcher IV was high on the Nebraska football team when he set his visit to Lincoln, and he came close to becoming a Husker once he got here.

The son of former Detroit Lion Robert Porcher says he was “blown away” with what he saw from the Huskers’ Friday Night Lights camp that saw a number of other high-profile recruits all coming away impressed.

NU is still looking for its first commit from the camp despite the glowing comments from a number of kids. It appears Porcher was one who almost pulled the trigger, but decided he owed it to himself to take all his visits before he decides on a school.

“I almost did commit,”

Porcher told

. “My dad and I just wanted to be sure. I have a couple other schools to visit. I’m going to Michigan, Arizona and maybe Virginia Tech. I just want to visit those schools and then I’ll have my decision.”

The defensive end recruit out of Florida was excited to be coming to Lincoln in the first place, and now it appears the school just might have the inside track. When the player was asked what made the biggest impact on him over the weekend, he pointed to the same things a number of other defensive line recruits have talked about after their visits.

The young player said he really liked the facilities but especially liked the relationship he’s been able to forge with new defensive line coach John Parrella. He added Parrella had been sending him pictures and telling him what a great place Lincoln was.

Porcher said he felt it was probably just a sales job but remarked after the weekend that “Nebraska is by far the best school I’ve been to so far.” That doesn’t mean Riley can count the former NFLer’s son as a Husker just yet.

Robert Porcher IV will still be visiting Michigan, Arizona and “maybe” Virginia Tech before he pulls the trigger. Still, Nebraska football has put its best foot forward and clearly impressed the young man.
