Husker Corner Monday Mailbag: McNeese State Edition
It’s week two of our game week Monday Mailbags with the McNeese State Cowboys on the horizon. If Florida Atlantic was a track meet, can you imagine what the Big Red may have in store for the Louisiana Pokes? In the meantime, we received the standard four questions of the week to address. Let’s get to them.
Brandon: That’s actually a very good question. I honestly have no idea what’s up with this bunch, especially considering Bo himself took responsibility for overseeing it this fall.
If they’re instructed to bring the heat every time, that’s great, but they still obviously have to make sure the returner doesn’t get killed, or at least has an opportunity to hang onto the ball.
On that note, I’d like to nominate De’Mornay Pierson-El as the full-time punt returner.
Brandon: I haven’t seen anything that makes me think otherwise. It’s important to remember that these first two games are, with all due respect to our FAU and McNeese State friends, scrimmages.
If you told Terrell Newby that he was going to have a 100-yard game against Florida Atlantic, he’d probably think you were crazy.
Look at it this way: Ameer’s a known quantity and after years of hard work, I find it really hard to believe the staff doesn’t want him to break records/win awards. So far, he’s on his way towards that.
They know what Imani can do (he did score against the Owls, after all).
Newby’s still somewhat of an unknown. He beat up on FAU and he’ll likely do the same to the Cowboys. However, what happens when playing in a Cracker Jack box late at night in Fresno with the fans on top of you?
Let’s see how many carries he gets versus No. 32 that night.
Brandon: It’s a tweaked knee. He’s been having issues since fall camp, but I do find it odd he even got time against FAU.
That said, don’t expect him to play at all against McNeese State, but a return against Fresno State is likely.
How do you feel the blowout of Florida Atlantic helps Nebraska the most moving forward – Andrea McCormick (Husker Corner Mail)
Brandon: Confidence is a huge thing out of the chute, but should the Huskers couple their demolition of the Owls with an evisceration of the Cowboys, they can’t get too cocky.
If anything, it’s something to point back to if things get rocky as a “we did this before, we can do it again” moment. These first two games are great for not only hitting people in other colors, but getting a winning mentality to set in.
Should Nebraska view all opponents as wearing Florida Atlantic’s colors and play accordingly, you’ve got yourself a potentially great season.
