Husker Football: Husker Corner Monday Mailbag (6/9/2014)

Another week towards the beginning of the Husker football season, another Husker Corner Monday Mailbag. We always love interacting with fans whether it’s the comment section below *hint hint* or here in the Mailbag. Enough small talk, let’s get to it!

Looking at the big picture, do you think the loss of Drake Martinez will affect Nebraska much down the line? – Ben Eagen (Husker Corner Mail)

Brandon: I honestly don’t think so. LeRoy Alexander proved a number of people wrong about him being a token offer. I was on the fence. You gotta give a kid a chance to excel or crash and burn, after all. Between him and Nathan Gerry, I like what I see.

There’s also D.J. Singleton and Luke Gifford who should continue to grow into the position. I expect the Huskers to pick up another safety in this cycle, too.

I recently read that Terran Petteway has been mentoring Tai Webster after last season. Is that really going to do much good next year? – Terry Laddusaw (Husker Corner Mail)

Brandon: Absolutely. When you’ve got a guy like Petteway who can step up and take a young guy under his wing, that’s huge. Factor in that Petteway has a chance to shine at the pro level and Webster was just a freshman last year. Only good things can come of it.

Webster has the talent. Having someone like Petteway to give him focus should help him impress in his sophomore year.

Is Monte Harrison really that big of a loss? – Jenny Hicks (Husker Corner Mail)

Brandon: Yes. I’m not going to lie, shrug him off and say, “Well, Damore’ea Stringfellow transferred, so it’s a wash.” If Harrison chose to play football, he’d play this season whether or not Stringfellow gets a waiver. He’s a special talent and would’ve given Tim Beck a huge weapon.

What’s your prediction for the NBA Finals? – Aaron Van Doorn (Husker Corner Mail)

Brandon: Head says Heat in six. Heart says Spurs in seven. That said, I like a lot of guys on both sides. I don’t think Bosh gets nearly enough love being in James’ and Wade’s shadows.
