How soon will Rex be back? Can he play against UCLA?

Senior running back, Rexburkhead sprained his left MCL, against Southern Miss. on Saturday. Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini, said that Burkhead will not need surgery. He said they will keep an eye on Burkhead’s injury, and he will be day to day.

I don’t see any way Burkhead gets on the field this Saturday at UCLA.

Is Taylor Martinez a legit Heisman Contender?

In week 1 I don’t think anyone is really a Heisman contender. The one thing that could hurt any Husker is, as of late the Heisman Trophy has been a two year trophy. That give the upper hand to guys like a Matt Barkley at USC, or a Geno Smith at West Virginia. With that being said if Taylor can continue to put up numbers like he did on Saturday, he may be invited to New York. 5 touchdowns, no interception is definitely a Heisman like day.

In your radio show, you said you expected to see David Santos on Saturday. Why do you think he didn’t get in?

P.S. The show has been great. Please keep posting them every week, if not more if you guys can.

First, thank you for the kind words. Thank you for listening. To your question, I am not exactly sure why David Santos did not get in, especially late. I think the coaching staff thinks very highly of Alonzo Whaley, and he struggled on Saturday. He may have stayed on the field just so the coaches could help him get to where he needs to be.

Do you see a Nebraska wide receiver being like a Robert Woods at USC?

I think your asking if you see a Husker wide receiver developing as a clear cut No. 1 target, or a an All-American. I think both sophomores Kenny Bell, and Jamal turner have that game breaking ability. I think Nebraska may have more reliable options than USC. The Trojans have the best wide receiver corp in the country. I am not saying Nebraska is more talented 1 through 4 at the wide receiver spot, but I don think their are more trust worthy hands for the Huskers No. 5-10.

With his performance on Saturday, and with Denard Robinson struggling, did Taylor Martinez make his claim as the Big 10’s best quarterback?

If the question was, was Taylor Martinez the best quarterback in the Big 10 on Saturday?  Yes. You have to take into account that Martinez played a very weak Southern Miss. defense, and Denard Robinson played, maybe the best defense in the country. We may not see Robinson struggle like that all season again, and until the entire season unfolds, Robinson is still the most exciting quarterback in the country.

Wisconsin struggled with Northern Iowa on Saturday, does Purdue have a legit shot at winning the Leaders Divison?

I said in the 2nd ever Husker Corner Radio show that the Boiler Makers may have a shot at giving the Badgers a run for their money. While Wisconsin was beating FCS Northern Iowa by a score of 26-21, Purdue routed Eastern Kentucky 48-6. The Boilermakers draw Notre Dame next, who looked impressive in their own right on Saturday. It will be the first real test for Purdue. After the Notre Dame game, that is when I will make my judgement on Purdue.  From what I saw on Saturday, I think Purdue is a legit 9 win team. Wisconsin takes on, Oregon State in Corvallis on Saturday. The two teams meet on, Oct. 13.

Alabama stomped Michigan,  Michigan State barely beat a rebuilding Boise State team, UNLV took Minnesota to triple OT, Wisconsin struggled Northern Iowa, Indiana barely beat Indiana State, and Northwestern almost collapsed against Syracuse. Is this a down year for the Big 10?

The SEC is still the most dominant conference in the country. I think Michigan will still be very impressive this year. Boise State plugs and pulls every year. Even with the loss of Kellen Moore, Boise State may go 11-1.   Minnesota is still in a rebuilding period, but may win 4 or 5 games, which would be an improvement from last season. Wisconsin’s struggles should be just a one time thing. I don’t see them struggling with Oregon State. Indiana only won one game a year ago. So this season can only be an improvement. Northwestern may be a 9 win team this season, if they can stay composed. So I think the Big 10 may be more improved from a year ago.
